Our playground is Skyline Drive, also known as the Wasatch Plateau or simply Skyline, one of the nation’s foremost snowkite locations. Drive to 9,655 feet and park above tree line just inches from open terrain that extends for miles in every direction. With its ridge top view, Skyline is suitable for any wind direction and typically receives moderate winds daily, with the exception of winter storms that can, quoting from Brian, "bring in the white room and slam down the wind hammer (we do have a secondary playground a little lower on the mountain for such occasions.

The terrain is suitable for beginners, with large flats and will challenge the moderate to experienced kiter with long gradual slopes of every angle.  Post frontal winds (after storms) usually bring easterly winds that open up numerous cornice runs and fields of open powder.

HISTORY

Snowkiters started riding the Alpine snow pack of Skyline as early as 2002.  Real progression started in 2003 when riders started to realize the consistency of wind and depth of snow pack and began to explore the backcountry of Skyline more frequently.  In 2004 Chasta arrived and discovered miles of previously un-kited terrain, including ridge runs that require portaging between forests. In 2005 the Ozone Snowkite Masters came to Skyline and brought an even bigger international crowd, placing Skyline on the world circuit for good.  Now it is common to find Snowkiters from any state or country on any given winter day at Skyline.
